"Simon has found an ancient tome left to him by his ancestors revealing the secret of the whip. In it, he learns that the whip can snap in eight directions."

This is the lamest explanation for a new game feature I've ever seen. It's great that Simon is so stupid he needs to discover an ancient tome passed down through the generations to figure out, "Hey, I can whip things above me too! Wait, what's this? Diagonally as well?"
